Straight answers

The questions people actually ask us

The same answers we give on the phone: no Latin, no hedging.

How much does a divorce cost in Chennai?+

It depends on three things: whether the divorce is mutual or contested, how many hearings it takes, and whether money, property or custody are also being fought over. Anyone who quotes you a flat figure on the phone is guessing.

After a free 15-minute talk we give you a written, stage-by-stage quote, so you know the cost before you commit to anything. See how our fees work.

How long does a mutual consent divorce take?+

Usually 6 to 8 months. The law builds in a six-month waiting period between the first and second hearing.

Courts can waive that wait when you have already lived apart a long time and the settlement is complete: which can bring it down to a few weeks. When the waiting period can be waived.

Can I get a divorce if my husband or wife refuses to sign?+

Yes. A signature is only needed for a mutual consent divorce. If your spouse refuses, you file a contested divorce on a legal ground such as cruelty or desertion, and the judge decides on the evidence.

It takes longer, but you are never stuck simply because the other side will not cooperate.

An FIR has been filed against me. What should I do first?+

Do not give any statement until you have spoken to a lawyer. Get a copy of the FIR and check which sections are named.

Depending on those sections you may be able to apply for anticipatory bail or ask the High Court to cancel the FIR. Both have short time windows, so call the same day.

Do you check property documents before I buy?+

Yes. We give a written legal opinion covering the past ownership documents, the encumbrance certificate, the patta and any court cases on the land.

It takes 3 to 7 working days and costs far less than the dispute it prevents. Get it done before you pay an advance.

Do I have to come to your office?+

No. The first talk can be on the phone or WhatsApp, and we work in English or தமிழ்.

If you live abroad, most divorce and property matters can be run in Chennai on a Power of Attorney with video hearings, so you may not need to travel at all. How NRI matters work.
